I started studying Illustration at the age of 12 under Comic Book Artist Joe Russel. Art was pretty much all I did through my childhood, I can remember selling doodles to buy snacks at lunch in grade school. I attended a vocational Highschool for two years where I studied Graphics arts, Computer arts, Print Shop, and TV production. My stint there was cut short for reasons both personal and academic, and I walked away from art for a long time.
It was always there in one form or another I guess, but I went from being a person who drew every day, to someone who rarely picked up a pencil. In February of 2007 I started my first business: A print shop. We specialized in a Digital type of print process which gave us the opportunity to print a single shirt with very low production costs. As a result of this process, we ran several websites with a wide variety of t-shirt designs. I was the only one of the team with any design experience, thusly I was thrust back into art.
Some months later, during my promotional endeavors, I stumbled across a website called Emptees.com. The people there loved all manner of art and were enthusiastic about strong illustration. Making friends in the industry and finding people who could relate to the urge to throw themselves into artistic expression regardless of the consequences was probably one of the biggest deciding factors in my career change. I remembered why I used to stay up all night filling sketchbooks with figure after figure, and I remembered a large piece of me that had been gone for a long time.
In the past year I have done nearly nothing but draw, or design in some way in my spare time. Stealing away countless minutes to projects that keep me awake at night. It has come time for my obsession to be realized as something more than small projects and side jobs. This is the start of the pursuit of my passion and the fruit of my dedication to excellence. I hope that you enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
