TDWP Exorcist Tee Commission

Mike from The Devil Wears Prada contacted me about doing a shirt for some tours they were on last summer. Knowing that they had purchased work from many of my favorite artists, I jumped at the chance to be involved in such a cool project. They wanted something from the old Exorcist movies with the text “The Power of Christ Compels You!” on the back of the shirts. This is what I came up with.

I lost a hard drive earlier this year, so I’m having to link to an old Mock on Emptees.com. Hopefully you can still get a feel for the illustration.

I wanted to come up with something as intense as the music it was representing. It couldn't be too "demonic" as the bands songs carry a Christian undertone. I think we came up with a good mix of classic hardcore and vicious imagery.

TDWP Exorcist Type Treatment

This was the hand drawn type I came up with for the back of the shirt. The band actually asked for some modifications to it, but this was my favorite version so it's what I'm showing.

Self Portrait

This was a self portrait I made of myself for a fun project on http://www.wholewhyworld.com forums. The topic was supposed to be “Uncle Bobby”.. The drunk amateur photographer at everyone’s wedding getting in the way of the real photographer.

Fun Fact: I actually drank a bunch of whiskey for some shots during this shoot. I really was the drunk Uncle Bobby.

Portraits of my Kiddos

For my Wife, on her birthday, I took some portraits of our children and had them printed and framed. Here’s a few of the shots.

Shredding at Warped Tour Atlanta

The awesome folks at Fueled By Ramen were kind enough to get me Press Passes to Warped Atlanta 2009. I got to wander all over, see merch I had designed, take pictures of bands, and hang out with some of my friends selling shirts at the vendors area. It was great.

A high point was that Mike from The Devil Wears Prada had me go to their merch tent and I got a copy of the shirt I designed for them, along with a bunch of other TDWP swag. It was one of the coolest things ever, so here’s some pictures of Mike and TDWP shredding faces off on stage.

The intensity of their set was really great. I couldn't hear for 10 minutes after I staggered out of the press pit.

Photoshoot with Sara

I wanted to do a shoot with a woman, being as that most of my work had been.. well, not people. My sister called up a friend of hers and we trudged around the front yard drinking, joking, snapping photos, and being silly. I was a bit nervous about my first shoot with a model I didn’t know, so of course my triggers died after the second shot and I ended up shooting natural light the whole time. We had a good time though, I think the photos convey that.

Photo of Sara Bucklin

This was one of the first shots. I found some nice flowers to use as a background and took the opportunity to play her red hair against a green background.

Sara in the trees photo

This was one I took while we were playing around. I had her stand in the tall reeds and we were joking about the situation. I think it captured her playful nature and made for a very honest and attractive photo.

Sara Smiling Photo

This was one snapped between poses, my sister Katy cutting jokes off camera. We had some more glamorous photos, but I really enjoyed just the honesty of the ones I picked. She was very pretty and exotic by nature, we didn't have to try very hard for interesting photos.

Skateboarding in Middletown, DE

Fig and Myself took a trip out to a local skate park and I brought my cameras with me. Some of the local kids were out there playing around. Obviously, when someone shows up with a camera, things get interesting.

This guy was probably the most techinical person there. He was giving tips to the others, and generally landing much more of what he tried. My favorite part about this photo is that he never put down his cigarette.
